Conventional education teaches us a lot of information we need–but little attention on the skills we have to have to succeed in life and work. In this article, we summarize 10 skills that pay off forever!

  1. Time management.
    Everyone has the same amount of time. It depends how you use it. There is no right way or wrong way. You must find a system that works for you. One that tells you; what you should do first, and when you should do it.
  1. Empathy.
    Empathy is the ability to feel what others are feeling. It builds trust, safety and encourages collaboration. Relationships are important in all areas of life. People do business with people who understand them. People help other people they like.
  1. Mastering your sleep.
    Remember what it’s like to try to focus on very little sleep? Studies show that being consistent with your sleep schedule helps you; rest better and recover faster. There are plenty of sleep hacks out there that help you get to bed, such as; avoiding foods 2 hours before you sleep, journalling, reading a book in bed, or meditation.
  1. Positive self-talk.
    We are our worst enemy. Negative self-talk chips away at your confidence, drains your energy and prevents you from spotting the opportunities. Minding your thoughts is important if you want more confidence to succeed in life.
  1. Consistency.

    says John Bytheway. Whether you are exercising, studying or working on an important project–consistency is key to success.
  1. Asking for help.
    A lot of times people are afraid to ask for help. They fear; looking incapable or getting in trouble. But the fastest way to accel is to have a mentor, colleague or friend you can reach out to. Someone who is more experienced at what you are doing. When you ask someone for help it validates their intelligence. They aren’t likely to think ill of you.
  1. Stop Whining Aloud.
    There are thousands of things you can complain about–world crisis, bad weather, stressful jobs, frustrating people etc. The list goes on. But people who blurt or vent their frustrations too often end up being seen as unpleasant and negative.
  1. Listening.
    Everyone hears but not everyone listens. One way to develop your listening skills–is repeat what you heard from the other person. Active listening helps you learn faster, and also builds trust with the person talking to you.
  1. Minding your business.
    No one likes a sticky beak. Sticking your nose into other people’s work isn’t helpful. It wastes your time and your energy. Knowing what you are responsible for and what you are not is important.
  1. Mastering your thoughts.
    All high performing athletes focus on developing the right mindset. The quality of your thoughts determine the quality of your results. An efficient mind is an efficient life. It is important to practice mindfulness. One of the best ways to develop this skill is meditation.
